Seminar on Non-timber Forest Products (Bamboo) Development for Officials

October 18 - November 3, 2008, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

 

1.     Basic information

Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce, P. R. China (MOFCOM), Seminar on Non-timber Forest Products (Bamboo) Development for Officials will be hosted by China National Bamboo Research Center (CBRC) in Hangzhou from Oct.18 to Nov. 3, 2008. The International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) will work with CBRC as a co-organizer of the Seminar.

 

Government officials, professors and entrepreneurs in forestry/ NTFPs in China are arranged to offer lectures together with a talk and discussion for cooperation, visiting to some most dynamic NTFPs/ bamboo regions in China and Beijing etc., and attending 2008 China International Bamboo Expo and sightseeing in Hangzhou and Beijing.

 

The main seminar contents include: Successful experiences in China’s rural development; Situation and development of China’s forestry(China’s 6 major forestry projects and China’s bio-energy development); Situation and development of China’s NTPFs----Bamboo, flower, forest food, forest tourism; the experiences and lessons of China’s NTFPs development, and the great roles of NTPFs in rural social-economy; China’s bamboo industry: Situation and development of China’s and world’s bamboo industry; its unique and huge roles in rural ecological, social-economic development; Government administration and supports in policy, finance, industry management and organization; Technical back-up and new products innovation, covering Bamboo’s high-yield cultivation: Basic theories on bamboo cultivation, Bamboo biology and ecology; Oriented cultivation, classification management, and ecological cultivation of bamboo plantation for shoot, timber, both shoot and timber, coastal shelter, water and soil conservation, landscape, and pulp etc.; and Bamboo landscaping; Bamboo’s processing and integrated utilization: Bamboo furniture; Bamboo arts and handicrafts; Bamboo artificial boards(bamboo concrete board, bamboo-based boards for bus, train and container); Bamboo curtain, mats; Bamboo charcoal/ active charcoal; Bamboo fiber; Bamboo pulping and paper-making and Bamboo shoot processing and Bamboo domestic and international market development.

 

The objective of the seminar is to let participants know China’s forestry(bamboo) administration and policies, the roles of NTFPs (bamboo) in ecological protection, social-economic development, cultivation, processing and utilization of NTFPs (bamboo) in China and in the world; have a good master of the basic theories and principles of NTFPs (bamboo) technologies and policies, and create a platform for a fruitful cooperation, so as to enhance their awareness and capacity of integrated development of NTFPs (bamboo) industries.

 

The working language of the seminar is English.

 

The seminar is designed for officials, teachers / experts / researchers or management / entrepreneurs in forestry, agriculture, environment, natural resources and tourism etc. of developing countries.
